Somer’s Mix media Art!
Somer has been taking time to do some really insane and fun mixed media pieces an let me tell you these 6 foot tall art creations are SICK!!!!
Not familiar with mixed media? Mixed media art refers to a visual art form that combines a variety of media in a single artwork. For example, if you draw with ink, then paint over it with watercolors, then add some highlights in colored pencil - that's mixed media! In Somer’s case her mixed media is Photography, digital painting, painting over the canvas, paper overlays and adhering rhinestones. Let me break it down…
First we start with the photoshoot…Somer works with clients on inspiration and ideas for the art piece. They talk about goals for the shoot, where they are wanting to place the artwork and even color schemes to coordinate your piece into your current decor. It is pretty funny but a lot of times when you are trying to bring your vision to life that you stumble on something else. The creativity starts flowing and BAM that one shot happens and you know that is the one you are going to use whether it is part of “the plan” or not lol.
After the shoot Somer works on editing the image and digitally remastering and painting in photoshop. Her style involves a lot of overlaying of digital texture and colors again taking in mind the clients color preferences. This part of the creative work is the most important to Somer and often she mocks up several variations before making the final selection to print as it set the vibe for the entire piece.
After this step is complete we sent the digital version to print at a professional lab. We print on luxury art canvas mostly of large format and commission a custom built frame to size.
Up next? Painting over the canvas using various paint types and styles, overlaying linen papers, and finally finishing it off with BLING!!! Rhinestones, beads and pearls artistically placed to give it a final wow! Here is some step by steps peeks of the process!
